75,000 years ago a supervolcano erupted in Toba, Sumatra sending thousands of cubic kilometers of ash into the atmosphere, blocking out sunlight for 2500 miles. Global temperatures plummeted 21 degrees. The human population decreased to several thousand. Three quarters of all plants in the northern hemisphere died.

The Cumbre Vieja Volcano in the Canary Islands is unstable and could collapse into the Atlantic Ocean sending 500 billion tons of rock plunging into the sea creating a splash more than 2100 feet high and 25 feet across and a wave racing across the Atlantic at 450 miles per hour.
